Simply the melting point of a substance depend upon the interparticulate forces more is the magnitude more will be attraction between the particles and if the particles are held by strong forces , they will be more hard . Now in melting we are increasing the entropy or we are separating the particles , if the particles are strongly held we need more energy hence higher will be the M.P.
