During dilution why acid is added to water not water added to the acid ?

The precautions must be taken while dilution. And it has to be taken care of that it is to be done only by the experts.

We have to be strict and stick to the statement , ” Always add acid to water while dilution”.

The dilution of acid is a highly exothermic process .

Now the main point to note is :-

1. The heat capacity of acid is very low and if water is added to it , a lot of heat will be released which can break the container and splash out and can cause major injuries.

2. The heat capacity of water is high and it can absorb the heat given out at the time of dilution. Thus it will not cause any kind of explosion or injury.
